Global Shipping Crisis Eases, Export Logistics for Glassware Gradually Return to Normalization

2025-09-15

01 Shipping Market Returns to Normalization

After the extreme chaos during the pandemic, the global shipping market has gradually returned to a normal rhythm. The shortage of containers has significantly eased, and freight rates have substantially decreased from their peak levels.

In the past, the end of each year was a peak period for foreign trade exports, with "warehouse explosions" and "container shortages" being common occurrences. Now, with the gradual repair of global supply chains, shipping efficiency has noticeably improved, and vessel punctuality rates continue to rise.

02 River-Sea Intermodal Transport Reduces Costs and Improves Efficiency

On September 12, the "Yuanda Pioneer" vessel set sail from Yangluo Port in Wuhan, carrying a batch of containerized rechargeable lithium-ion battery systems "made in Hubei" destined for North America.

This marks the successful maiden voyage of Hubei's first river-sea intermodal transport for energy storage cabinets under the "one-container system," utilizing a coordinated maritime supervision model that allows "one declaration" and "one container through transport" via waterway.

Compared to traditional road transport, the single-container freight cost for Hubei Chuenergy's energy storage cabinets exported via waterway decreased by over ten thousand yuan, export lead time was reduced by 1 to 2 days, and logistics costs fell by 30%, further enhancing the global competitiveness of "made in Hubei" products.

03 SMEs Regain Competitiveness

The decline in logistics costs has allowed small and medium-sized export enterprises to regain their competitiveness in the international market. Glass manufacturing companies in Zibo City are among the beneficiaries of this wave of advantages.

As an important export base for daily-use glass and琉璃crafts in China, the glass products manufactured in Badou Town hold a significant position in the domestic market, with over 90% of the products exported to more than 100 countries and regions, including the United States and Japan.

"In the past, missing the express pickup time would delay everything by a full day. Now, the end of the production line is directly connected to the express trucks," explained the e-commerce responsible person of Shandong Pingping Anan Trading Co., Ltd.

With on-site express teams, the shipping time has been reduced from 24 hours to 2 hours. Even an order for a single glass jar priced at 10.8 yuan with free shipping can be delivered to consumers promptly and smoothly.

04 Express Services Entering Factories Optimize Supply Chains

The innovative "express services entering factories" model launched by Zibo City provides an effective solution to the problem.

Unlike the simple "point-to-point" transport of traditional logistics, express companies embed the logistics chain directly into the manufacturing process by stationing dedicated personnel, deploying exclusive vehicle teams, and offering customized services.

Now, at the production workshop of Shandong Pingping Anan Trading Co., Ltd., inspected and qualified glass products only need to turn around to enter the express packaging area. The conversion time from production line to package has been compressed to "minutes."

Given the fragile nature of glass products, express companies employ packaging solutions that are shockproof, waterproof, and pressure-resistant, and use outer packaging of different specifications based on product volume. After continuous optimization, the breakage rate has been controlled below 5%.

05 Digitalization Becomes a New Trend in Supply Chain Management

Facing the complexity of the international market, an increasing number of export enterprises are adopting digital tools to optimize supply chain management.

The rise of low-code technology offers new pathways for optimizing global supply chain management. Without needing complex programming skills, companies can quickly build专属supply chain management applications through "drag-and-drop components + visual configuration."

These digital tools help enterprises achieve full-link data coordination, intelligent inventory management, and real-time logistics tracking, significantly reducing supply chain management costs.

Foreign trade ERP systems assist companies in achieving transparent cost accounting, integrated order and production planning, and automated documentation and compliance, effectively addressing international trade policy risks.

06 Accelerated Layout of Overseas Warehouses

To counter international logistics uncertainties, Chinese companies are accelerating the layout of overseas warehouses. In Toronto, the "transfer station" jointly established by overseas Chinese Liu Hongming and his compatriots has become a "super hub" in Canada exclusively for Chinese people.

This logistics center, covering 13,000 square meters, operates 30 loading and unloading ports around the clock, handling tens of thousands of orders daily to North America. With the capacity to process 1,100 containers per month, it significantly shortens the bulk inventory cycle and reduces logistics costs.

Similar overseas Chinese logistics hubs are emerging in many parts of the world. The "European Gateway" in Poland, operated by overseas Chinese Zhong Lin, features a 3,500-square-meter Weiga "transfer station" that not only handles sorting and distribution but also serves as a "testing ground" for companies exploring the European market.

07 Policy Support Drives Logistics Innovation

Policy support is also fostering innovation in logistics models. The promotion of the "one-container system" for water-water transit of "new three categories" goods along the Yangtze River trunk line allows goods like new energy vehicles to be exported via containers with just "one declaration" and "one container through transport."

According to estimates, after implementing the "one-container system," container port time can be reduced by 35%, saving enterprises over hundreds of millions of yuan in transportation costs annually.

Meanwhile, the state encourages the recycling of waste glass, promoting resource-based processing through tax incentives and technological upgrades, and incorporating it into the development focus of the waste materials recycling system.

08 Future Outlook

With the continuous recovery of global logistics channels and the emergence of innovative models, Chinese export enterprises are entering a more favorable development environment.

Zibo City handles over 40,000 glass product shipments per day on average, with shipment growth rates remaining above 20% for five consecutive years. Since 2019, shipment volumes have exceeded ten million items for six consecutive years.

Behind these figures is a true reflection of the enhanced global competitiveness of Chinese manufacturing. Through logistics innovation and digital upgrades, Chinese export enterprises are building a more robust global supply chain system.
