Against the backdrop of the evolving global trade landscape, Chinese exporters are setting their sights on promising emerging markets. According to recent information gathered by this newspaper from multiple foreign trade enterprises and industry data reports, glass-contained candles—home fragrance products traditionally exported primarily to Europe and America—are now experiencing explosive growth in the Middle East and Southeast Asia, becoming a bright spot in export trade.
Previously, the main consumer markets for home fragrance products like glass-contained candles were concentrated in developed Western countries. However, with the diversification of the global economic center of gravity, the rapid expansion of the middle class in the Middle East and Southeast Asia is quietly changing consumption concepts and lifestyles. Consumers in these regions, particularly younger demographics, are beginning to pursue a higher-quality life aesthetic, with home fragrance and decoration becoming a new way to enhance their living environment and emotional well-being. The beautifully designed and pleasantly scented glass-contained candles perfectly meet their dual needs for home beautification and emotional consumption.
"We have clearly felt a rapid increase in orders from Saudi Arabia and the UAE over the past two years, followed by clients from Thailand, Malaysia, and the Philippines," said Mr. Wang, head of a Shenzhen-based trading company specializing in home goods exports. "Customers in these regions not only have unique preferences for scents—such as Middle Eastern clients favoring woody and exotic notes, while Southeast Asian customers prefer fresh fruity and floral scents—but they also have higher requirements for the decorative aspect and design of the glass containers."
This shift in market trends is closely linked to the vigorous development of China's cross-border e-commerce. The traditional multi-layer distribution model is being replaced by more efficient Direct-to-Consumer (D2C) models. Chinese manufacturers and exporters of glass-contained candles are actively leveraging global e-commerce platforms like Amazon and Alibaba International Station to directly reach small retailers and even end consumers in cities like Kuala Lumpur, Dubai, and Riyadh.
Through cross-border e-commerce platforms, Chinese sellers can conduct market testing, product display, online transactions, and logistics distribution with lower costs and greater speed. A seller who has been operating on Alibaba International Station for five years told our reporter: "Using the platform's data tools, we can accurately analyze trending products and search keywords in different emerging markets, allowing us to quickly adjust product designs and marketing strategies. A small order might come from a boutique store in Southeast Asia, which was difficult to achieve under the traditional foreign trade model."
Data from the General Administration of Customs also corroborates this trend indirectly. Although Europe and America still hold the dominant share, the year-on-year growth rate of glass-contained candle exports from the Middle East and Southeast Asia has remained above 30% for several consecutive quarters, far exceeding that of traditional markets.
Industry analysts believe that the rise of emerging markets provides a structural opportunity for China's manufacturing exports. China's comprehensive glass product supply chain and mature candle production processes endow its products with high cost-effectiveness and rapid customization capabilities. Coupled with the "new ticket" of cross-border e-commerce, Chinese exporters can precisely navigate into this "new blue ocean" full of exotic appeal. In the future, as the economies in these regions continue to develop and consumption potential is further unleashed, the "Eastern fragrance" of glass-contained candle exports is expected to travel even farther.
