In the past decade, China's
Candle foreign trade scale has shown a steady growth trend and occupies an important position in the global market. According to relevant data, the annual export volume of Chinese candles has exceeded 300,000 tons, which is equivalent to the annual export volume of Chinese green tea. The products are sold to more than 160 countries and regions around the world, firmly sitting in the "top position" of the global candle trade.
In terms of the number of enterprises, there are currently about 10,200 candle-related enterprises in China, among which nearly 50% were established within the past 10 years. The industry is developing at a relatively fast pace and shows a trend of continuous innovation and expansion. Geographically, Guangdong, Zhejiang, Fujian, Hunan, Jiangsu and other regions have a large number of candle-related enterprises. These enterprises play an important role in technological innovation, product design and market expansion.
In terms of product types, Chinese candles have gradually shifted from traditional lighting candles to high value-added products. For example, osmanthus-scented and tea-scented candles with Chinese cultural imprints are deeply loved by overseas consumers and have entered countless households overseas. At the same time, hundreds of thousands of styles of candles such as scented candles, craft candles and birthday candles have also enriched the domestic consumer market and met the needs of different consumers.
It is worth mentioning that Chinese candle enterprises are also actively exploring environmentally friendly and sustainable development paths. They obtain raw materials for scented candles from soybeans and avocados and launch green and low-carbon candle products, which not only meet modern consumers' pursuit of environmental protection but also inject new vitality into the development of the industry.
In terms of market distribution, European and American countries are the main export destinations of Chinese candles. In 2023, the United States was the country with the largest export value of Chinese candles, with an export value of $19.683 million. The United Kingdom ranked second, with an export value of $11.945 million. Australia ranked third, with an export value of $6.775 million.
With the development of the global economy and consumers' emphasis on living quality and environmental atmosphere, the demand for candles as decorative and festival items continues to increase. Especially in traditional festivals and religious ceremonies such as Christmas, Easter and Halloween, candles have important symbolic meanings, further promoting market demand. At the same time, consumers' preference for environmentally friendly and natural materials has also driven the continuous expansion of the market share of natural candles such as soy wax and beeswax candles.
